Privacy Policy — SPICE
Effective date: 1 July 2026
SPICE ("the App") is an ingredient-to-meal-plan web app by ai.doo, available at
spice.aidoo.biz. Tell it what ingredients you have and it
suggests a meal plan. This policy explains what information is involved, how it is used, and your choices.
Summary in plain language
- No accounts. We do not ask for your name, email address, or location.
- Your saved recipes, pantry staples, settings, and stats stay in your browser (localStorage).
- The ingredients you enter are sent to OpenAI to generate a meal plan.
- We keep an anonymous count of which ingredient combinations are popular, with no link to you.
- We use privacy-friendly, self-hosted analytics with no advertising cookies.
Information involved when you use SPICE
-
Ingredients and preferences you enter — the ingredients, cooking time, equipment,
skill level, and flavour mode you choose are sent to our backend and on to OpenAI to generate a
suggestion. Please do not enter personal or sensitive information into these fields.
-
Data stored in your browser — saved recipes, pantry staples, chosen settings, and
personal stats (such as recipes generated and your daily streak) are stored locally in your browser
via localStorage. This stays on your device and is not sent to us.
-
Anonymous community data — when a suggestion is generated or rated, we store an
anonymous signature of the ingredient combination and any rating so we can show how popular a combo
is and its aggregated feedback. This is not linked to you or your device.
-
Technical data — like most web services, our servers process your IP address
transiently to apply rate limits and keep the service available. We do not use it to build a profile
of you.
How the information is used
- Generate meal-plan suggestions from the ingredients you enter.
- Show anonymous community popularity and rating breakdowns for ingredient combinations.
- Protect the service with rate limiting and basic security measures.
- Understand aggregate usage so we can improve the App.
Third-party services
SPICE relies on a small number of third-party and self-hosted services:
-
OpenAI — the ingredients and preferences you submit are sent to OpenAI's API to
generate suggestions. See
OpenAI's privacy policy.
-
Umami analytics — we use Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics tool that we host
ourselves on ai.doo infrastructure. It records aggregate usage (such as page views) without
advertising cookies and without cross-site tracking.
We do not sell your information, and we do not serve ads.
Data retention
Data stored in your browser stays until you clear it or your browser removes it. You can delete it at
any time by clearing site data for spice.aidoo.biz or by using the reset options in the App. Anonymous
community and analytics data is aggregated and retained to keep those features working.
Children's privacy
SPICE is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from
children.
Your rights
SPICE is operated from the Isle of Man and processes information in line with the Isle of Man Data
Protection Act 2018 (equivalent to UK and EU GDPR). Depending on where you live, you may have rights to
access, correct, or delete personal data, or to object to certain processing. Because SPICE does not
require an account and stores your personal settings on your own device, most of your data is already
under your control. For any request, email
hello@aidoo.biz.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information, including security
headers and rate limiting. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to
safeguard data.
International transfers
OpenAI may process data on servers outside your country. We rely on the safeguards offered by those
providers where required.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date above shows when it was last revised.
